Developing New Products & Technologies

Technology Development Institute

The Technology Development Institute (TDI) at Kansas State University provides a broad range of services and project management resources to both private industry and university researchers to advance the commercial readiness of new products and technologies.

Located near the K-State campus, TDI operates within a 22,000 sq. ft. facility that includes offices, engineering design labs, a 3D printing and scanning studio, and a fully equipped prototyping shop where products can be designed and fabricated at a single location. Our prototyping capabilities range from sheet metal and machined parts to plastic fabrication, ensuring that products can be developed efficiently in one location.

For over 30 years, TDI has built an extensive network of university experts, patent attorneys, engineering service providers, prototyping specialists, and manufacturers to support the commercialization of new products and technologies. Our experienced engineers and business professionals work closely with clients to identify key development tasks, including:

  • Intellectual property and commercialization strategies
  • Product engineering and prototyping
  • Custom equipment design and fabrication
  • Reverse engineering and facility scanning

We have a proven track record of analyzing business opportunities, assessing technologies, and determining the most viable path forward. Our team helps clients navigate development challenges, protect intellectual property, and connect with industry resources to ensure commercial success.
