Why use K-State Online for an intranet?
- K-State Online already has many features built into it that you would need
for an intranet. To a name a few, restricted access, message boards, chat
rooms, an online calendar, ability to upload files in their native format,
etc.
- No web authoring or programming experience required.
- Templates are available to choose from.
- You can manage the content and access to the intranet yourself.
- It is free.
- Access information anytime and anywhere with one url. You no longer have
to login to the network and search the endless folders and files for that
one form or phone number. This will allow you to organize materials more efficiently.
- Build restricted workspaces for departments, teams/committees, search committees,
etc.
What do I need to get started?
- A K-State Online account.
Anyone can have a K-State online account. You don't have to be affiliated
with the University to have an account.
- After an account has been created, contact the K-State Online helpdesk at
785-532-0198 to have your account bumped up to instructor-level access.
Is there any training for using K-State Online?
The Information Technology Assistance Center (iTAC) offers K-State
Online training.
-
How do I give people access to the intranet?
- Through the Roster which is available through the Utilities Suite in K-State
Online.
- What kind of files can I have on the intranet?
- You can upload any file type to K-State Online. However, you may want to
consider if end users will have the same type of program installed on their
machines or if users will be downloading over a modem. If so, you may want
to consider other means of making the file available such as publishing it
as an html file.
