Honorlock for Students
Online Exams and Proctored Testing
A proctor is a representative of an academic unit who serves in place of your professor and observes you during an exam. They will monitor the materials you are allowed to use during the exam, your access to the exam, and the time limit.
If an instructor chooses to have proctored assessments in an online course, K-State uses the online proctoring solution, Honorlock. Honorlock is the free proctoring option for students at Kansas State University.
It is at the discretion of your instructor if they will allow students to choose an in-person proctor. Please note that any other proctoring solution is at the expense of the student. Only Honorlock is free to K-State students.
As a Kansas State University student, you acknowledge you will abide by our system of Honor and Integrity.
What You Need
Test takers will need a working webcam, microphone, and device that meets system requirements, and the Honorlock Chrome extension.
How to Get Started
To take an Honorlock-proctored exam, log into Canvas, go to your course, and click on the exam (Canvas Quiz). Clicking "Launch Proctoring" will begin the Honorlock authentication process, where you will take a picture of yourself, show your ID, and complete a scan of your room (not all exams will require each of these steps). Honorlock will be recording your exam session through your webcam and microphone. During your exam, Honorlock will also record your screen. Honorlock also has an integrity algorithm that can detect search-engine use, so please do not attempt to search for answers, even if it's on a secondary device.
