Kansas Board of Regents November meeting agenda items
The Kansas Board of Regents meeting will be Nov. 18 on the Wichita State University campus. The board will consider the following K-State agenda items during the meeting.
This month, all state universities submitted fiscal year 2017 housing and food service rates for first reading. Final action will be taken by the board in December, and approved rates will go into effect on July 1, 2016. As auxiliary enterprises, housing and food service operations must cover the total cost of operations with the user fees. Housing and Dining Services staff determine proposed rates with input from the student leaders of the Association of Residence Halls. Proposed rate increases for fiscal year 2017 are recommended to cover increased operational costs as expenditures for food, utilities, facility maintenance and technology, plus all operational costs in Jon Wefald Hall and the new dining center. Housing and Dining Services works hard to keep campus housing and meal options affordable. K-State's room and board rates are below the national average and rank in the lower one-third of the Big 12 Conference. View the proposed rates.
The Veterinary Health Center requests approval to proceed with a magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, enhancement project. G111 Mosier Hall has been identified as a large enough space to accommodate a high field MRI and large animal patients. Its location is central to the small animal and large animal hospitals, easily accessible from the outside and allows all safety requirements to be completed in a cost efficient manner. Upgrading K-State's MRI capability will better align the university with veterinary teaching hospitals and provide our students with the most up-to-date technology. The estimated total project cost is approximately $2.6 million to be funded with Veterinary Health Center revenue.
Last month, the board received a first reading of the 2016 nonbudgetary legislative items. K-State had one item, a land exchange at Ashland Bottoms due to a discrepancy between university property and property owned by a private landowner. The board will take final action this month to include the item as part of its legislative initiatives.
