Playwright Donald Jolly to read from his work Monday
Playwright Donald Jolly will read from his work from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, June 27, in Union 213.
Originally from Washington, D.C., and now based in Los Angeles, Donald Jolly is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an master's of fine arts in dramatic writing from the University of Southern California's School of Theatre. His work has been workshopped/read/presented at Horizon Theatre Company in Atlanta, CalArts, Celebration Theatre, the University of Southern California and CoA.
Jolly’s historical drama, bonded, offers a re-imagined slave narrative set in 1820. It received its world premiere at Playwrights’ Arena at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in spring 2011. In his work Jolly employs imaginative uses of language to investigate urban identities and to explore the intersections/interactions between race, class, gender and sexual orientation through historical and contemporary lenses.
