Opportunities for K-State faculty, staff and postdocs to engage in Three Minute Thesis competition
The Graduate School's annual Three Minute Thesis, or 3MT, competition kicks off on Feb. 5. More than 70 master's and doctoral students representing eight academic colleges are signed up to present their research in a three-minute talk using a single, static slide on Feb. 5.
The 3MT is an opportunity to learn about the diversity of important research being conducted by K-State graduate students. This experience provides a venue for graduate students to showcase their research and develop communication skills that support their preparedness for careers.
The Graduate School welcomes faculty, staff, postdocs and community members to assist with the 3MT in one of two ways:
- Serve as a mock judge in practice sessions for 3MT presenters. Mock judges provide feedback to help graduate students strengthen and improve their research presentations. These sessions will be held Jan. 27 through Jan. 31.
- Serve as a judge in the first round of the 3MT competition on Feb. 5. The first round of competition will consist of several heats of presentations between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Room 227 and the Flint Hills Room in the K-State Student Union. The time commitment for judges is 1-1.5 hours.
If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer form to indicate your availability.
Both the first round of competition and the final round of competition are open to the public to attend. Eight to 12 graduate students will be selected to advance to the final round of competition, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the K-State Student Union Ballroom.
Questions about the competition and volunteering may be directed to Megan Miller, Graduate School assistant director of student success, at mmmiller@k-state.edu.
