Riportella to present second campus lecture today on the Affordable Care Act

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Are you confused about all of this talk about health care reform? Roberta Riportella, Kansas Health Foundation professor of community health at K-State, will present the second session about the Affordable Care Act from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in 1018 Thockmorton Hall.

Riportella will explain the aspects that have already gone into effect, such as coverage for adult children up to age 26 under family insurance plans of their parents, as well as the consumer protections set to go into effect Jan. 1, 2014, such as not being able to be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.

Riportella has spent more than 30 years analyzing health policy and teaching about it, most recently as a professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has a long and varied career working with many state based agencies, nonprofits and health care provider groups focused on issues related to how individuals, families and communities can best create opportunities for health and accessing health care. Since March 2010 when health care reform became a law, Riportella has been helping professional groups, communities and consumers become informed about its potential impact.

Riportella also is the health policy specialist for K-State's Research and Extension.

The Nov. 5 session was streamed live. Archived workshops can be accessed on the Graduate School's website.
