Affirmative action director job posting available; to be director of institutional equity
As shared by the President and Provost in their campus visits this fall, the university is working to consolidate university human resources functions currently in HR, Affirmative Action, and Academic Personnel in an Office for Human Capital reporting to the President, effective July 1, 2014. This consolidation and related efforts respond to recommendations from the Unclassified Professional Task Force, Recruitment and Hiring Assessment, and Aon Hewitt Human Capital Services Assessment, to address accountability and build capacity to best serve the university community.
As a result, some functions currently performed by the Office of Affirmative Action will move, specifically, oversight of the hiring process for unclassified faculty and staff will move to the Human Capital Office (official transition July, 2014). The compliance and investigations functions, critical to meeting the university’s legal obligations for and commitment to ensuring equal opportunity across campus, will now form the Office of Institutional Equity.
The Office of Institutional Equity will continue to report to the President’s office until the Vice President for Human Capital is in place. The investigations function within the OIE will continue to have a dotted line reporting structure to the President’s office. This division of responsibilities and name change reflect national trends in and outside of higher education, and best reflect the responsibilities the office assumes—ensuring equal opportunity and assuring access for all individuals to Kansas State University and its services.
The position of director of the office of affirmative action is posted. However, the name of the office, affirmative action, is being changed as President Schulz and Provost Mason discussed in their fall updates on 2025. The office will now be named the office of institutional equity; the national job search will be for a director of institutional equity.
The position description and search committee members names can be viewed online. It is anticipated that a permanent director of institutional equity will be hired mid-spring.
