Black Faculty and Staff Alliance meeting today at noon
All Black Faculty Staff Alliance members, current and future, are invited to the first general meeting of the year today at noon in 432 Waters Hall.
As we start the new year, welcoming our students back to campus and preparing to participate in Martin L. King, Jr. Observance Week activities, let us not forget a 'champion of peace," the late Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa. The Black Faculty Staff Alliance recognizes his courage, tenacity for peace and for being a shining example of how to overcome adversity.
Since the 1980s, the Black Faculty and Staff Alliance has served as a voice for African-Americans employed at K-State. Throughout the school year, we host numerous events and collaborate on service projects and student scholarships that benefit the K-State and the Manhattan communities.
Our charter members include: James Boyer, Charles Rankin, Ann Butler, Reginland McGowan, Juanita McGowan, Kathy Greene, LaBarbara Wigfall and, of course, Veryl Switzer, whom some consider the father of K-State minority affairs.
We invite the K-State community to join us wherever you are at 12:15 p.m. today for a moment of silence to reflect on the contributions of Mr. Mandela.
Best wishes to all for a great start for the new year and we look forward to seeing the Black Faculty Staff Alliance membership at our first meeting of the year. Feel free to bring your lunch!
