Apply now to the Peer Review of Teaching program
Are you interested in working with a community of scholars to enhance your teaching and student learning within your courses? Would you like to develop a course portfolio to document your efforts? Apply and receive a $1,000 stipend to join the program this fall.
The Peer Review of Teaching Program is an exciting and important project, part of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning at K-State. The objective of the program is for faculty members to develop and document their teaching by producing course portfolios.
The project effort is designed to support faculty in the development of a community of scholars who discuss and write about the intellectual work involved in their teaching. The course portfolio will potentially enhance the standing of teaching as a serious component of faculty members' careers. Faculty will complete their exercises and write their portfolio during the spring semester of 2012. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
Following completion of the course portfolio, each participant receives a $1,000 stipend in faculty development funds.
A faculty member's experience begins with a yearlong fellowship that supports peer collaboration for enhancing learning and the writing of three short essays on different aspect of teaching - intellectual content, teaching practices, and student understanding. Faculty combine their essays into a reflective document, referred to as a course portfolio, in the form of an inquiry into the success of a course in helping students learn.
Fall 2011 participants will be matched with faculty mentors who have already produced a portfolio. They will also participate in a project orientation meeting Nov. 5 and plan for the spring semester.
