Statements of Substantial Interest filing deadline is April 30
Submitted by Melissa Linenberger
The following is a message from April Mason, provost and senior vice president, and Susana L. Valdovinos, director of academic personnel, sent to all K-State vice presidents, deans and unit/department heads regarding the deadline for filing the Statement of Substantial Interest:
By now, everyone should have received through the mail a notice from the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission that the 2011 Statement of Substantial Interest must be filed before the end of April. The Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission mailed these notices to the home addresses of all employees who must file an SSI.
Please remember the SSI is different from the conflict of interest and time commitment form that is filed internally and accompanies the yearly contracts. Both reports are due every year and both reports are required.
The SSI is required by state statute and is filed directly with the state upon appointment and annually in April. It may be conveniently accessed and filled out or updated at: Statement of Substantial Interest.
When employees receive their contracts for next year, they will have to file their required Conflict of Interest and Time Commitment form. To avoid confusion, please encourage all employees who received the SSI form in the mail at home to file electronically before the Saturday, April 30, deadline.
Any questions about the SSI should be addressed to Kelley Cochran, Governmental Ethics Commission, at auditor1@ethics.ks.gov or 785-296-4219.
