Philosophy professor to present in California
James Hamilton, professor of philosophy, will present "The Theory of Mind puzzle about spectating puppets" at the meeting of the Pacific Division of the American Society for Aesthetics on April 10 at the Asilomar Campground in Pacific Grove, Calif.
There is considerable anecdotal and data-driven evidence that spectators experience puppets as autonomous, but there also is considerable anecdotal and data-driven evidence that puppeteers experience puppets as extensions of their autonomy. Hamilton explores and compares various solutions to the paradox.
