Highlights from the Oct. 11 faculty senate meeting

Here are the highlights from the Oct. 11 Faculty Senate meeting. Meeting minutes will be available on the website as they are approved by Faculty Senate.

Oct. 11:

  • Photos of Faculty Senate were taken prior to the meeting. 

Standing committee and Student Senate reports:  

  • Academic Affairs: Senator Bennett presented suggested syllabus language to senate for a first reading. The task force to review K-State 8 tagging and criteria has been scheduled to meet. No course and curriculum items were on the agenda for approval at this meeting.
  • Faculty Affairs: Senator Knopp reported on work on the anti-bullying policy. It is hoped it will be on the senate agenda in either November or December this year. Senator Hughey updated senators on changes to the University Handbook with regard to Appendix J. President Vontz gave additional background and university attorney, Pete Paukstelis, was in attendance and answered a few questions of senators regarding the item. Other issues continue to be on their agenda for review this year such as clinical faculty language and the professor of practice topic.
  • FSCOT: Senator Rintoul reported on items discussed at their recent meeting, such as the textbook reporting system, new wireless access protocol on campus, and two documents for IRMC review. 
  • FSCOUP: Senator Condia reported on their October meeting. Bruce Shubert was a guest and discussed the university budget with committee members. Also discussed were priorities from the committee regarding K-State’s 2025 strategic plan. 
  • Student Senate: Senator Rauth reported on several items, including privilege fee allocations and an update on the SGA initiative “InTouch”. 

Announcements: 

  • President Vontz reported that focus groups to discuss the hiring process at K-State are meeting now and Faculty Senate’s focus group is scheduled for Oct. 13.
  • He reported that he and past president Cauble will be attending the Enhanced Classroom Experience committee meetings again this year as they did last year.
  • The Board of Regents meet next week and transfer and articulation is a topic on the agenda.   

For the Good of the University: 

  • Past president Cauble gave commendation on the wonderful work done to 105 Umberger Hall.
