Submitted by Communications and Marketing
The Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens will take a trip Thursday, July 31, to Shirley Farms in Vermillion.
The gardens of K-State alumnus Dale Shirley feature cultivars of dahlias and colorful gladiolas, among many other summer blooming favorites, said Marti Meek, one of the trip organizers.
She added that visitors may purchase hybrid cultivars if they bring a container to transport the plants.
Trip participants will carpool from Manhattan at 8 a.m. and return by noon. A brunch served at 10 a.m. is included in the $25 cost of the tour. Net proceeds support the K-State Gardens.
Reservations and trip payment are due July 28 by contacting Anne Springer of the K-State horticulture department at 785-532-1442 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Registrants also may visit or write the department at 2021 Throckmorton Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
