Faculty, staff must complete online anti-discrimination training, new website launched
Submitted by Roberta Maldonado Franzen
The Office of Institutional Equity is offering anti-discrimination online training that will be completed by all faculty and staff on an annual basis beginning this fall semester. The office also has developed an anti-discrimination training website, which also answers various frequently asked questions about the annual completion of the online training.
As members of Kansas State University, we are all responsible for knowing and complying with the university’s policy prohibiting discrimination. The goal of this training is to assist supervisors, administrators, faculty and staff in understanding the university’s policy and expectations for reporting incidents that may violate the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Violence and Stalking, or PPM 3010.
It is recommended you allow one hour when scheduling time to complete the online training; however, most employees can complete the training in 30 to 45 minutes. The online training is offered in five languages: English, Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Spanish. The development of the training has been supported and encouraged by the campus community, including Faculty Senate, University Support Services and the Learning and Development Advisory Committee.
The training is interactive and includes scenarios based on real-life experiences. Many of the actors in the video are current and former students and staff of the university.
The training will be delivered in two phases. The president’s cabinet and Division of Human Capital Services will receive an invitation to complete the training on July 28. All staff that report to the president, Administration and Finance, Division of Communications and Marketing, Intercollegiate Athletics, Office of Research and Student Life are included in Phase I and will receive an invitation to complete the training on Aug. 4. All faculty and staff that report to the provost are included in Phase II and will receive an invitation to complete the training on Aug. 18. All staff members are expected to complete the training within 60 calendar days of receipt and will receive follow-up reminders until the training has been completed.
