Vernon Larson Lecture series hosts Paraguay's minister of agriculture
Jorge Gattini, the Paraguay's minister of agriculture, will be the first speaker of the 2014-2015 Vernon Larson Lecture series at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union.
The Office of International Programs is partnering with the agricultural economics department in the College of Agriculture to sponsor Gattini.
There will be a Q-and-A and a meet and greet following the lecture. This event is free and open to the public.
The lecture series was started in 1979 by Vernon C. Larson, then director of international agricultural programs. The series offers an opportunity for the K-State community to hear presentations from faculty and individuals who have recently participated in an extensive overseas activity or who are involved in major international activities.
Gattini was appointed to the position of in August 2013 in the cabinet of President Horacio Cartes. He studied agronomics at the National University of Asunción and obtained a master's degree in agricultural economics at Kansas State University and a Master in Applied Environmental Economy at the Imperial College London. He is a renowned consultant in agricultural matters.
He will receive the Kansas State University agricultural economics department 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award on Friday evening at the department's alumni and scholarship banquet.
