The Office of Institutional Equity is introducing a partnership between the Kansas State University campus and Manhattan community. Its an educational initiative known as Raise the Bar Aggieville. The program launch will be from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at the intersection of North Manhattan Avenue and Moro Street in Aggieville. Please save the date.

The initiative is an educational outreach program based on curriculum developed by Our VOICE, a rape crisis and prevention center in Asheville, North Carolina. Raise the Bar Aggieville seeks to educate servers and bartenders at alcohol-serving establishments on how to identify drug-facilitated sexual assault — when alcohol or other drugs are used to minimize resistance to, or memory of an individual's ability to consent to sexual activity.

Through the partnership with the Aggieville district, local alcohol serving establishments will be informed of drug facilitated sexual assault, and how to promote bystander intervention among bar/restaurant staff. In an effort to encourage dialogue among staff about preventing assault and discussion surrounding alcohol impairment and sexual assault, Raise the Bar Aggieville will present training sessions beginning in December to Aggieville businesses that choose to participate in the program.

Follow Raise the Bar Aggieville on Twitter @KSU_RaiseTheBar for updates and tips about how to prevent sexual assault and promote bystander intervention.
