Deadline approaching for Jefferson Science Fellowship nominations
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
Nominations are open for Jefferson Science Fellowships through the U.S. State Department.
The Jefferson Science Fellowships allow tenured academic scientists and engineers from institutions of higher learning in the U.S. to help form and implement national foreign policy. The program is administered by the National Academies and supported through a partnership with the science, technology and engineering academic community, professional scientific societies and the U.S. Department of State. This position is for 12-months and does not qualify as sabbatical leave.
All tenured faculty in the sciences are eligible for the fellowships. All Jefferson fellowships are contingent upon awardees obtaining an official U.S. government security clearance.
University administrators have been supportive of past fellows. Brett DePaola, professor of physics, served as a 2010-2011 fellow. Richard Marston, distinguished professor of geography, is currently serving as a fellow.
The application package must be submitted by Jan. 13. For more information on how to apply visit the National Academies website. Questions and help with any application can also be directed to DePaola.
More information on the program is available online.
