Opportunity for STEM faculty members to participate in 2015 Summer Research Program
The Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation is looking for science, technology, engineering or math faculty members to participate in the 2015 Research Immersion: Pathways to STEM summer program.
This is an eight-week summer research program that will occur from June 1-July 24, 2015. The program aims to provide a research experience for students enrolled at the alliance associated community colleges — Donnelly College, Dodge City Community College, Garden City Community College and Seward County Community College — with a goal to increase engagement of underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering and math fields. The program also intends to ease the transition of students from their community colleges to K-State by providing interactions between student participants and K-State support services throughout the summer.
Students are paired with faculty mentors based on their stated interests. During the program, student participants are expected to commit 30-36 hours per week to their research experience. This may include conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, library/database work or other research related activities.
Faculty mentors interested in participating should be available to work with students throughout the majority of the eight-week program. We encourage mentors to meet often with student participants as well as be available for social gatherings that occur throughout the summer.
If you are interested in serving as a faculty mentor, or if you have questions about the program, please contact Brenee King, Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation project coordinator, at lsamp@k-state.edu.
