Call for abstracts announced for inaugural digital humanities symposium at K-State

The English department and K-State Libraries invite the submission of abstracts for an inaugural symposium in digital humanities, "Exploring the Digital Medium: Cross Disciplinary Collaboration in the Digital Humanities."

"Exploring the Digital Medium," Feb. 27-28, 2015, will initiate a conversation about the field among scholars in Kansas and the wider region. The event will include two workshops on digital humanities and pedagogy as well as plenary speakers and presentations on a variety of subjects.

"Many researchers on campus may be using digital humanities methods and pedagogy, but they aren't aware of other digital humanities work going on elsewhere on campus and beyond," said K-State Libraries Dean Lori Goetsch. "We are excited to be a part of a symposium that brings fascinating examples of digital humanities to the forefront."

There are opportunities for scholars as well as undergraduates and graduate students to present their work. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 16, 2015. Registration for the symposium will be available Feb. 1 from the website.

Potential topics:

• Digital research in humanities disciplines like literature, history, linguistics, philosophy and cultural/ethnic/women's studies.
• Digital humanities pedagogy or dissemination of digital humanities theories and practices.
• Visualization, analysis and computational representations of humanities content.
• Sustainability of digital projects and information life cycles, especially for humanist topics.
• Public humanities in digital environments.
• Humanities computing and data curation.
  
• Humanist concerns in digital arts, architecture and design.
• Digital Performing arts — music and theatre.
• Collaborative partnerships for digital work between humanities and/or social sciences and the sciences.

"Exploring the Digital Medium" is made possible by partnerships of the Digital Humanities Center, the English Department, K-State Libraries, the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, the Chapman Center for Rural Studies, and the offices of the provost and president.
