Staley School of Leadership Studies to offer new course in civic leadership for fall 2015
The Staley School of Leadership Studies is excited to offer LEAD 502, Civic Leadership: Movements, Campaigns, and Collective Action. This course will be taught by former Kansas Gov. John Carlin and will begin in the fall 2015 semester.
The course will take a unique look into civic leadership through social, political, economic, and cultural movements and campaigns. Students interested in civic leadership, nonprofit management, studying law or exercising leadership for change should consider enrolling.
Throughout the course, the content will focus on four core principles of civic leadership. These include building relationships committed to the common good, translating values and narratives into sources of collective action, mobilizing individuals and resources to change systems, and understanding how to structure authority to effectively distribute leadership.
Enrollment into this course will be recognized as an elective for any student in the leadership studies minor, but students who are not leadership studies minors are encouraged to take this course as well. It also can be contracted with the University Honors Program.
