Dedication ceremony for Horticulture Club-built student courtyard at Throckmorton Hall
Over the course of the 2014-2015 school year the K-State Horticulture Club has developed and constructed a courtyard at the south entrance of Throckmorton Hall for the enjoyment of students and faculty. Join us for the dedication and official "opening" of this area from 1:30-2 p.m. Sunday, April 12.
Construction of the courtyard began in October 2014, and after seven months of dedicated volunteer work from members of the Horticulture Club — as well as assistance from representatives of several other clubs within the College of Agriculture — the project is now complete.
The courtyard area includes a water feature, landscape lighting, paved patios, a steppingstone path, bench seating, table-and-chair seating, and a variety of plant material incorporated into what will soon be a thriving landscape. All of this has been funded by generous donations from alumni, current students, faculty, green-industry businesses, the university, the club and several other College of Agriculture clubs. Names of contributors that purchased engraved bricks will be visible in the entrance pathway, and there were be several other plaques throughout the garden commemorating contributions.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided. In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be in the first-floor lobby of Throckmorton Hall. All are welcome to attend.
