Vincent Amanor-Boadu guest speaker at Kansas Black Farmers Association annual meeting
The Kansas Black Farmers Association 15th annual meeting will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Frontier Farm Credit Administrative Offices, 2009 Vanesta Place, Manhattan. Vincent Amanor-Boadu, professor agriculture economics, will be the noon luncheon guest speaker.
The Kansas Black Farmers Association, or KBFA, was founded in 1999 by farmers of Nicodemus, Kansas, for mutual support of minority, women and new farmers, and cooperative agricultural market development. Nicodemus, in northwest Kansas is the only remaining western town established by African-Americans during the Reconstruction period following the Civil War. Today Nicodemus, a national historic site since 1996, represents the unique and valuable legacy of black homesteaders' determination and ability to sustain themselves in spite of all the economic, environmental, social and political odds.
The meeting is being sponsored by College of Agriculture Diversity Programs Office and Frontier Farm Credit. For more information please contact JohnElla Holmes, at 785-532-1181 or johnella@k-state.edu, or Zelia Wiley at 785-532-5793 or zwiley@k-state.edu.
