K-State Police hosted state public safety communication conference

Submitted by Donald Stubbings

The Kansas State University Police Department was the host for the state conference for the Kansas Chapter of the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials, or APCO, April 27-29.

Approximately 150 emergency communicators were in Manhattan to gain professional development in areas such as active listening, active shooter response, dispatch improvement, and physical and personal well-being in the emergency services field.

Additionally, attendees were able to get a sample of the latest in next generation 911. The event was capped off with a banquet, which recognized several dispatchers for their dedication to their communities.

"It was a huge success, the training was outstanding," said Doran Herbel, communications supervisor at the K-State Police Department and one of the main organizers of the conference.

Riley County Police also co-hosted the event.
