Sauer named Distinguished Dietitian of the Year

The Kansas Dietetic Association has named Kevin Sauer, associate professor in the hospitality management and dietetics department, the Distinguished Dietitian of the Year.
The award recognizes a dietitian who demonstrates significant involvement at the local, state and national levels of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and provides leadership and advancement in the field of dietetics.
Sauer was presented the award during association's awards banquet in conjunction with their annual conference April 24 at the Hotel at Old Town in Wichita.
Sauer has many leadership positions. He is the incoming chair, commissioner and a member of the finance committee; Commission on Dietetics Registration liaison for the Research Council of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; co-editor of the Journal of Foodservice Management and Education; and website coordinator for the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council.
He is a member of the entry-level dietetics practice audit committee, competency assurance panel; Registration Examination panel for the Commission on Dietetics Registration and the School Nutrition Association Governing Council; Kansas Department of Education's Child Nutrition and Wellness Advisory Board; Research Leadership Team for the Center of Excellence for Food Safety Research in Child Nutrition Programs; and Food Service Systems Management Education Council's Administrative Board.
Sauer received his Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from Kansas State University in 1993, Master of Science degree in food service, hospitality management and administrative dietetics from Kansas State University in 1998, and doctorate in human ecology from Kansas State University in 2009.
The Kansas Dietetic Association is a state affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The academy is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. With nearly 72,000 members, the Chicago-based academy strives to improve the nation's health through food and nutrition.
