Hiring process improvements
Submitted by Roberta Maldonado Franzen
The talent acquisition department in the Division of Human Capital Services provides a university update on several process improvements for the hiring process.
In collaboration with 31 representatives from the university community at a Kaizen Event, the department has redesigned the faculty, unclassified and university support staff hiring process. These new and improved procedures are currently being piloted with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Information Technology Services. After learning from the pilot improvements, the process will be fine-tuned and implemented universitywide in August.
The pilot program includes utilizing a streamlined and condensed Job Requisition Form and Job Summary Form. This improvement results in using two forms in lieu of Appendices 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, PER 5, and PER 10. Both units are creating the initial contract and forwarding it to talent acquisition for review prior to final signature by the provost.
As part of our commitment to demonstrate continuous improvement, the pilot team and talent acquisition meet on a routine basis to discuss and address issues that arise as a result of the redesigned process. Thus far, the feedback has been very promising.
In addition, talent acquisition has created many new toolkits available to the university community to source, attract and hire top talent. For example, departments have access to the academic offer letter template, scheduling guide, international hiring guide, screening tools, reference check guide and job announcement templates.
Our next steps include training and a redesigned website. Talent acquisition will host training sessions July 23-25 and July 28-31 to explain the streamlined hiring process. The Division of Human Capital Services is redesigning the website and additional changes are forthcoming over the summer.
