Graduate student recognized for top poster at annual meeting
Masoumeh Tavakol, master's student in civil engineering at Kansas State University, was recognized as having one of the two best entries in the student poster competition at the annual meeting of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Midwestern District from June 29 to July 1 in Branson, Missouri.
Tavakol's poster was titled "Analysis of pedestrian crash risk factors of injuries and fatalities in Kansas." Mustaque Hossain, civil engineering, is her major professor. About 20 students submitted research posters in the competition and $400 cash awards were given to the top two winners.
Three other civil engineering graduate students, and fellow members of the K-State student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, presented posters as well — Himanshu Patel, Ishani Dias and Syeda Aziz. Chapter adviser for the group is Eric Fitzsimmons, civil engineering visiting professor.
