K-State Police Department cautions public about scam
The Kansas State University Police Department received a report of an online dating or romance scam. The scam involves meeting the person online and developing an online relationship.
In this case, the person engineering the scam was perceived as a K-State student stuck in a foreign country and needed money. The scammer also used a poorly altered student identification card to add validation to his or her claim.
As with many other too-good-to-be-true scams, please be cautious when establishing online relationships. Use common sense when being solicited to give or receive money from unknown people or organizations.
If you feel you have been targeted in a scam, please do not open attachments or begin a dialog with the potential scammer. Contact the K-State Police Department at 785-532-6412.
