Professor and head of agronomy selected to international soils panel
Gary Pierzynski, university distinguished professor and head of the department of Agronomy, has been selected to serve a two-year term as the U.S. representative to the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, or ITPS.
The panel was established at the first Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership at the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization headquarters in 2013.
The ITPS is composed 27 top soil experts representing all the regions of the world. Its main function is to provide scientific and technical advice and guidance on global soil issues to the Global Soil Partnership and to specific requests submitted by global or regional institutions. The ITPS will advocate for addressing sustainable soil management in the different sustainable development agendas.
In addition, Chuck Rice, university distinguished professor of agronomy, serves as the Soil Science Society of America representative to the General Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership, making K-State well represented within this prestigious international organization.
