K-State Olathe conducts Xi’an University summer institute
Kansas State University Olathe conducted a summer institute for 19 faculty members from Xi’an Medical University.
The three-week institute, which concluded with a graduation exercise on Thursday, Aug. 6, focused on professional development and cultural immersion. The visiting faculty consisted of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and English instructors. This was the first trip to the U.S. for 17 of the Chinese scholars.
The curriculum entailed extensive collaboration with the KU Medical Center, Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences, KU School of Pharmacy, American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Johnson County Community College and the Olathe Medical Center.
K-State partners, including the College of Veterinary Medicine, Global Campus and Office of International Programs, participated in the institute as well. The collective theme revolved around the concept of One Health — the convergence of human, environmental and animal health.
"Our time with the Xi’an faculty was personally rewarding for all involved," said Dean Vakas, chief operating officer, K-State Olathe. "It also demonstrated the international reach of K-State Olathe and allowed us to strengthen the regional bond of cooperation between institutions involved in the professions of health."
