The Kansas State University College of Business Administration has promoted Bente Janda to assistant dean for student services.
Janda has served as director of undergraduate student services since 2012, and has been an advisor within the college for 17 years. She has been recognized with the college's Kansas State Bank Outstanding Advising Award three times — 2000, 2004 and 2010 — and was the 2012 recipient of the Presidential Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Advising.
"Bente has demonstrated outstanding abilities in leading the student services staff over the past three years as director, and this promotion is a recognition of that success," said Kevin Gwinner, interim dean of the College of Business Administration. "I am confident she will continue to do an outstanding job in this new position."
In her expanded role, Janda will provide strategic leadership for all areas of the Office of Student Services, which includes six academic advisors as well as records, recruitment and front desk staff. She will provide direction to the unit to meet the diverse needs of all undergraduate students in the college, while leading and overseeing key programs and activities like freshman orientation and study abroad initiatives, among many others.
"The main goal of our unit is to provide caring, comprehensive and valuable advising services to undergraduates in the college," Janda said. "Going to college is a huge investment in terms of both time and money. Our commitment to our students is to ensure that they get a good return on their investment by helping them successfully navigate their college experience from start to finish."
Janda is actively involved in several professional organizations such as the National Academic Advising Association, the Kansas Academic Advising Network, K-State's University Advising Committee, K-State's Academic Advisors Forum and Women of K-State. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1992 before going on to earn an MBA in 1994, both from the University of Arkansas.
