President Kirk Schulz and V.P. Pat Bosco's letter about K-State's emergency notification system
Submitted by Kirk Schulz and Pat Bosco
Dear K-State Students, Faculty and Staff,
Your safety is our primary concern, so we urge you to sign up today for K-State Alerts, if you have not done so already.
K-State Alerts is Kansas State University's emergency notification system. It will notify you when a dangerous condition exists on campus, such as the events earlier this morning when law enforcement was searching for a possible armed suspect on campus and a lockdown was issued. K-State Alerts include texts, phone calls and other channels of communication.
If you are not signed up for K-State Alerts, you miss receiving timely information about dangerous situations or emergencies (e.g. active shooter, storms or winter weather, dangerous debris from storm), when a decision to close the campus has been made or when a decision to reopen the campus following a forced closure has been made.
To receive emergency notifications by text or phone, you must enroll in K-State Alerts through the eProfile system. Only current faculty, staff, and students with an active eID are eligible to sign up for text messages and phone alerts. This includes K-Staters at the Manhattan, Salina and Olathe campuses and distance students. As a K-State student, you also can add contact information of parents, children and spouses when you sign up.
K-State Alerts is just one way K-State works to keep students and employees safe. To find out more, check the campus safety Web pages at the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Student Life. And don't forget to download LiveSafe, the K-State safety app.
As a member of the K-State family, we want you to be safe. That's why signing up for K-State Alerts is so important. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at kirks@k-state.edu or bosco@k-state.edu.
Thanks and stay safe,
Kirk Schulz, President
Pat Bosco, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
