Collegiate Learning Assessment results show undergraduate student growth in writing, critical thinking skills

The Collegiate Learning Assessment, or CLA+, is a performance-based test utilized by hundreds of higher education institutions to assess critical thinking and written communication skills. Approximately 200 students — 100 freshmen and 100 seniors — take the test at K-State every three years.
Overall, the assessment scores from 2014-15 show K-State seniors ranked in the 82nd percentile of all Collegiate Learning Assessment participants, while freshmen ranked in the 55th percentile.
In the performance, or writing, task, K-State seniors ranked in the 69th percentile while freshman ranked in the 40th percentile. In the selected-response, or multiple-choice, section, K-State seniors ranked in the 90th percentile, while freshmen ranked in the 75th percentile.
