Eminent ecologist to speak at K-State
The Division of Biology will host Charles J. Krebs, professor emeritus of ecology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, as departmental seminar speaker at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in 221 Ackert Hall. Krebs will present "Seven Questions about the 10-year Cycle of Snowshoe Hares in Canada's Yukon."
Krebs has authored about 300 peer-reviewed articles and written several important textbooks in ecology, including "Ecology: The Experimental Analysis of Distribution and Abundance," sixth edition, 2009; "Population Fluctuations in Rodents," 2013; and "Ecological Methodology," third edition in preparation.
For a decade, Krebs directed a multi-investigator project studying population cycles of snowshoe hares in the boreal forest in the Yukon Territory of northern Canada. The results were published in the book "Ecosystem Dynamics of the Boreal Forest: The Kluane Project" in 2001.
