K-State brings home four national continuing higher education awards
Kansas State University accepted four awards at the Association for Continuing Higher Education national conference in St. Louis, Missouri, this fall.
"National awards validate the excellence provided by K-State Global Campus," said Duane Dunn, associate dean of K-State Global Campus. "Whether that recognition is for individual staff projects or team achievements, these national awards indicate that our programs and achievements are among the very best in the nation."
Award recipients:
Distinguished Credit Program Award — Personal Financial Planning Program
K-State offers a graduate certificate, master's degree and doctoral program in personal financial planning through distance education. The goal of the program is to meet the educational needs of professionals in the financial planning field. The doctoral program is the first of its kind in the nation to be conducted primarily online. Students learn to solve real-world problems and integrate knowledge about personal finance and relationships.
Distinguished Noncredit Program Award — UFM Teen Mentoring Program
The UFM Teen Mentoring Program was developed through UFM Community Learning Center in Manhattan, Kansas, and serves high-risk teens in the community. UFM uses group settings to keep middle school and high school students engaged in how to cope with and work through their struggles in a healthy manner utilizing K-State student mentors. The program gives teens a sense of acceptance, care and support that encourages success.
Rising Star Award — Danielle Brown, Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus
Danielle Brown has served as the professional education and outreach director at Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus since 2013. She coordinates the campus's distance and face-to-face courses and programs. Brown also coordinates the promotion of Kansas State Polytechnic professional education courses and programs, developing new credit, noncredit and certificate programs that expanded Kansas State Polytechnic’s outreach in the community and beyond. She focuses on building relationships with students, especially distance students, helping them integrate seamlessly into the workforce. She has also served as chair of the faculty senate Committee on Professional Staff Affairs.
Crystal Marketing Award — On Track Campaign
The On Track campaign promotes Kansas State University’s flexible educational options that can help adult learners in the Manhattan, Kansas, and surrounding communities get back on track to complete a bachelor’s degree. The campaign reached the campus and local community and included radio and television spots, print and online advertising, on-site informational sessions about how to get started at K-State, and a student story-based message. The campaign also helped increase the number of K-State employees utilizing their tuition assistance.
