Memory and invention foundation for Spanish architect's Ekdahl lecture
Enrique Sobejano, founding partner of an award-winning architecture firm in Europe, will deliver the spring 2011 Oscar Ekdahl Memorial Lecture at Kansas State University.
Sobejano's lecture, "Memory and Invention," will be 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 28, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building. His presentation, in English, is free and open to the public.
Sobejano help found the internationally recognized architecture firm Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos S.L. in Madrid and Berlin. The firm has received architecture awards from Germany, Spain, the United States and more.
Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos' work focuses on programs of cultural halls. The firm has several projects under construction, including the Barcelo Market, an urban area in downtown Madrid that will include a library, sports complex, market and parking facility in the center of the city. It also is working on the extension of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria.
The Ekdahl Lectures began nearly 40 years ago as a memorial honoring Topeka architect and K-State alumnus Oscar Ekdahl. Born in Manhattan, Ekdahl was a founding partner of Topeka architecture firm Ekdahl, Davis, Depew & Pearson Architects, now Tevis Architects. The Ekdahl Lectures focus on issues affecting the quality of the environment and the leadership roles of architects.
