Friday First-Gen Focus
This week's segment from the College of Education's "A Walk in My Shoes: First Generation Students" features Jessica Leichter, Shawnee. Since she was raised in a relatively affluent family and community, Leichter's story complicates easy stereotypes about who are and are not first-generation students.
Recall that some 40 percent of incoming first-year students and 7,000 or so of K-State's current undergraduate students self-identify as students who are striving to be the first in their respective immediate families to earn a bachelor's degree. That's a lot of students!
