Friday First-Gen Focus
This week's segment offers words of advice for first-generation students and is the conclusion of the K-State College of Education's "A Walk in My Shoes: First Generation College Students." Many thanks to Debbie Mercer, dean of the College of Education, and her many colleagues for creating this and other wonderfully educational films.
As we near the semester's end, I am pleased to report that the Kansas Board of Regents has lent its imprimatur to Wichita State's recent proposal to convene a statewide meeting of first-generation college students. Modeled on the 1vyG conferences at Harvard University, the hope is to foster first-generation student leadership and mutual learning and assistance at and among Kansas Board of Regents universities. K-State hosted a conference planning meeting at the Staley School of Leadership Studies last week. We look forward to joining our Kansas Board of Regents colleagues and fellow students in Wichita next September.
Sincerely,
Steve Dandaneau
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies
