Summer Advising Institute registration closes May 16
Registration for the fourth annual K-State/NACADA Summer Undergraduate Academic Advising Institute May 19-20 is open until Monday, May 16. More than 100 K-State faculty and staff have already registered. All activities will take place in the Leadership Studies Building.
Participants will be welcomed by April Mason, provost and senior vice president, and benefit from a keynote by Brett McFarlane, director of academic advising at the University of California, Davis. McFarlane will address "Advocating for Academic Advising: Approaches for Meaningful Campuswide Change."
The institute will feature six K-State focused breakout sessions on students of concern, pre-law and pre-health advising, the new structure of the University Honors Program, tutoring and cross-unit advisor collaboration, as well as plenary sessions on a homegrown university advising syllabus, changes in summer school, KSIS/SSC Campus, and the realignment of key first-year and retention programs. Finally, we will feature research posters and unit table displays from 8-9 a.m. Friday, May 20, during a breakfast browse session.
Catering will be provided by Bockers and Wahoo Fire and Ice Grill, the latter providing a special luncheon fare on May 19. As always, Summer Advising Institute participants are advised — pun intended — to come hungry for learning and discussion.
Contact Steve Dandaneau at dandaneau@k-state.edu or Carla Jones at cjones@k-state.edu with any questions, to reserve a table or to present a poster for the browse session.
