Final legislative update from Sue Peterson
The 2016 Kansas Legislature adjourned on May 2. The Legislature will adjourn sine die on Wednesday, June 1. The 2016 veto session passed a number of bills including the omnibus reconciliation bill. This legislation required the governor to issue allotments of state general fund monies to balance the state budget.

Other legislation passed in the veto session included:
- Changes to the open records law not allowing state employees to use private email to conduct official business.
- Allowing specific areas of public buildings to prohibit concealed carry weapons.
- Requiring the Kansas Board of Regents to launch a Degree Stats site to assist students and families in making decisions for degree programs at state universities.
- Changes to the state budget process to implement performance based budgeting.
