Geology faculty member presents keynote and represents department with students at recent conferences
Saugata Datta, professor of geology, was the keynote speaker at the Arsenic 2016 Congress-Sixth International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment, June 19-23, in Stockholm, Sweden. Datta presented "Understanding the relation of As and Mn biogeochemistry within Fe-rich sediments in southeast Asian aquifers."
Datta, with graduate student Michelle Berube and undergraduate student Kaho Okayama, also presented at the 26th Goldschmidt Conference June 26-July 1 in Yokohama, Japan.
Several presentations were made, including "Geochemical Controls on Arsenic Release into Groundwater from Sediment: In Relation to Existence of a Natural Reactive Barrier" and "Nitrate Contamination and Remediation in Shallow Aquifers — Near the Farmer's Elevator Company in Sylvan Grove, KS, USA."
