Children with autism spectrum disorder needed for research study beginning Sept. 14
K-State researchers seek participants ages 3-6 and diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The children and their parents are invited to participate in a four-week social group in which they will engage in a variety of activities to support language skills and social interactions, including crafts, fine motor activities and gross motor activities. The lighting conditions in the classroom will vary during each session and lighting measurements will be taken.
The purpose of the current research is to explore the potential effect of classroom lighting conditions on children with autism spectrum disorder during small group instruction.
All sessions will take place at the K-State Speech and Hearing Center, 1405 Campus Creek Road, on the Manhattan campus. Parents will complete informed consent forms at an initial meeting prior to the start of the social group, if time allows, or at the first session. Families will receive an honorarium for each session the child attends to offset costs of participation.
The group will meet from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, Sept. 14-Oct. 7. All sessions will be video recorded for observational data and lighting measurements.
Please contact Debra Burnett at deburnet@k-state.edu or 785-532-0802 if you are interested in participating or would like additional information.
