Research administration professionals across the university invited to join new Research Administrators Council
All K-State professionals working in research administration at the department, college or central administration levels in preaward or postaward capacities are invited to join the newly formed Research Administrators Council.
While attending the National Council of University Research Administrators, or NCURA, national meeting in August, attendees from K-State realized the value of having a group on campus to exchange ideas about current topics and issues. The goals of the new council are to provide better communication among all levels of administrators and to offer training opportunities.
A kickoff meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18, will offer a potluck lunch and tour of the new Sponsored Programs Accounting offices at the old Foundation Building, 2323 Anderson Ave., Suite 600. Organizing committee members will present an overview of their vision for the group and will provide main courses, drinks and table service. Please register by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and bring a side dish or dessert. If you can't make it on Oct. 18, please fill out your name and contact information on the registration form so organizers can add you to our listserv to publicize events and communicate updates.
The group will have other opportunities to gather for professional development later in the month. The council will show the National Council of University Research Administrators broadcast of "Subaward: A Story" from 2-4:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in 227 K-State Student Union and again from 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 in the Sponsored Programs Accounting office conference room.
Quarterly meetings are planned for 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 10, April 11, July 11, and Oct. 10. Locations are to be determined. The Jan. 10 meeting will feature Vice President for Research Peter Dorhout and Ian Czarnezki, director of operations for the Office of the Vice President for Research. Dorhout will discuss plans to attain the research goals of K-State 2025, and Czarnezki will provide an update from the task force evaluating software solutions supporting research administration at K-State.
