Encourage student attendance at the Academic Majors Fair Wednesday
Faculty and staff should remind students about the upcoming Academic Majors Fair. The fair will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Grand Ballroom at the K-State Student Union.
"Having the fair in October gives students the chance to have follow up visits with advisers in time to complete any necessary paperwork before enrolling for the spring 2012 semester," said Michael Lynch, K-State associate vice president for student life.
Representatives from K-State's nine colleges will be on hand. Department and student services representatives will talk to students about academic majors, minors, secondary majors and career alternatives.
"The Academic Majors Fair is a great event for students because it allows them to explore their interests and discover new career options. It's also a wonderful opportunity for K-State students to connect with faculty and learn more about how to chart a career path," said LeAnn Brazeal, associate professor of communication studies.
Last year’s fair attracted around 850 students. When surveyed, more than 95 percent of them said they’d recommend this event to a friend.
"Every year I look forward to the Academic Majors Fair. I believe it's so important for students to be satisfied in their field of study, and this event gives students the opportunity to investigate all the majors at K-State," said Tami Duch, open option program adviser. "When students realize just how many options are available, it's easy for them to select a major that will lead them on a career path they can become excited about. I would just encourage all students to drop by the academic majors fair to check out what K-State has to offer."
The fair is sponsored by K-State's Academic and Career Information Center, the College of Arts and Sciences' open option program, Housing and Dining Services, Healthy Decisions and the nine K-State colleges. More information is available here.
