K-State, Cowley partnership brings bachelor's degrees within closer reach
Residents in Arkansas City and surrounding areas have a clearer path to completing a Kansas State University bachelor's degree through Cowley College in dietetics and nutrition and health, thanks to curriculum agreements between the two institutions.
These agreements, called 2+2s, allow students to complete their first two years at the community college and their remaining two years completing a bachelor's degree online through Kansas State University Global Campus. The two schools signed an initial agreement in 2013, while the most recent arrangement adds two popular bachelor's degree offerings in dietetics and nutrition and health.
"These articulation agreements help make things work more smoothly for students transferring to the university," said Harold Arnett, vice president of academic affairs at Cowley College in a statement. "They also save students time and money by assuring that the students take the courses they need and can use in completing a four-year degree."
The university's growing number of 2+2s helps meet a statewide need for more adults to complete a bachelor's degree, contributing to an increasingly educated Kansas workforce. Agreements between Cowley and K-State make the degree more accessible and attainable for area students who are unable to travel to the university's campuses.
"We're pleased that these programs are available for individuals who are interested in careers in nutrition and dietetics," said Duane Dunn, associate dean for K-State Global Campus. "The 2+2 degree agreement provides the students more educational options and the opportunity for great career advancement. We are excited to provide this opportunity to Cowley College students."
Kansas State University has 2+2 agreements in place with all 19 Kansas community colleges that lead to bachelor's degrees and continues to develop additional agreements for new degree offerings.
