Mycotoxin expert to give seminar Oct. 17
Walter F.O. Marasas, retired director of the Programme on Mycotoxins and Experimental Carcinogenesis of the Medical Research Council in South Africa and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, will give a seminar at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 in Town Hall of the Leadership Studies Building.
Marasas has spent his entire career working on mycotoxins, toxins produced by fungi that can contaminate food and feeds. He is best known for his work with the fumonisin mycotoxins, which are a major threat to the health and welfare of rural South African communities and have become one of the largest non-tariff trade barriers in the grain trade worldwide.
