Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative information sessions: How to apply for OA funds
Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt
Did you know there are awards of $2,000-$5,000 available for instructors who want to create or adapt open or alternative textbooks for their classrooms?
If you've ever considered applying for funds from the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative, plan on attending one of two informational sessions on Thursday, March 16. Faculty from the Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship, or CADS, at K-State Libraries will review the application requirements and selection criteria. They also will cover what previous award winners have reported as two major benefits: cost savings for students and the faculty's ability to have adaptability in their instruction materials.
The sessions will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in 407 Hale Library. They will cover the same material at both sessions, and there will be plenty of time for questions.
The deadline to apply to Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative this semester is Friday, April 28.
The initiative and the sessions are supported by its co-developers, Andy Bennett, professor; Brian Lindshield, associate professor; and Rebel Cummings-Sauls, assistant professor.
Please contact CADS at cads@k-state.edu if you are interested in attending an informational session. Faculty members are still welcome to join without RSVPing.
