It's midterm season: Encourage students to bring their writing to the Writing Center
Whether your students are undergraduates or graduate students, we know that this time of year can be tough with their upcoming paper and project deadlines, and the Writing Center is here to help.
A common myth about the Writing Center is that we're only here to help struggling writers. However, at the Writing Center, we know that every writer, no matter how skilled, can benefit from having a reader who is trained to give attentive feedback. The center helps writers to strengthen their writing process by working on writing elements such as organization, argumentation, voice and style, rather than merely editing and proofreading for them.
Undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines can bring their writing projects to the center. Students can organize a research paper; talk through an assignment sheet or conference CFP; brainstorm; improve writing clarity and focus; practice a presentation or speech; prepare personal statements, resumes, and scholarship essays; map a dissertation or thesis; get feedback on a poster; receive long-term writing mentoring; and more.
All students can sign up for their own appointments using the center's online scheduling system.
Are you a strong writer and communicator interested in becoming a writing consultant? Or are you teaching a student who would make a good consultant? The Writing Center hires undergraduate students from all disciplines who are good listeners and team players. Please contact Cydney Alexis at calexis@k-state.edu for more information.
