Update from the Multicultural Student Center planning group
Submitted by Multicultural Student Center Planning Group
The Multicultural Student Center planning group is eager to share their progress, and will post regular updates and individual reflections from the students, faculty, staff members and administrators who are serving through the remainder of the semester.
The planning group has convened twice so far. The group received their charge from the senior leadership team, affirmed ground rules and established relationships for successful committee work. The group has, and will continue to take time to learn about the work and research that has been previously collected, and look forward to utilizing this information as they move forward. As a committee, the group also is learning more about the fundraising process that will need to be developed to successfully move forward. Following spring break, the group will invite feedback from the campus community in the form of an online survey.
"I am very excited to be elected to serve as the student co-chair for the Multicultural Center Planning Committee! It is a true honor to work alongside seven passionate students on this committee and I look forward to even further transparency and student involvement in the planning process as we march toward increased diversity at Kansas State. This center can create opportunities for all of us to be more competent in the area of inclusion and diversity, which can help Kansas State change the world," said Bryan Davis.
Co-chairs Kimathi Choma and Mary Tolar said they are delighted to serve with Davis to meet the group's charge and facilitate progress on this important initiative for K-State's campus community, and are impressed by the care, candor, and shared investment expressed by the committee members. Choma and Tolar look forward to inviting additional voices beyond the committee and understand that many in K-State's community have much to contribute to this work.
