Sigma Xi special seminar: 'Lessons from the Hot Zone: Emerging infectious disease and bioterrorism threat'
Jerry Jaax, former associate vice president for research compliance, will present "Lessons from the Hot Zone: Emerging infectious disease and bioterrorism threat" as part of the Sigma Xi distinguished student invite lecture at 4 p.m. April 24 in 1018 Throckmorton Hall.
The presentation will recount the first outbreak and the emergency multi-agency response to Ebola in Reston, Virginia in 1990. This outbreak was the basis for the New York Times bestseller "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston. The ebola outbreak currently affecting West Africa and other countries — including the U.S. — will be discussed.
Additionally, Jaax will discuss emerging infectious disease, bioterrorism threats and national initiatives to counter those threats.
A reception will follow.
This lecture is hosted by the K-State student section of Sigma Xi.
